Fallout 2's were more interesting.Īgain, don't get me wrong-I like the game a lot. * Most of the locations are boring and lack character. Fallout 2 had a few improvements that made it much more tolerable. Fallout 2 suffers from this problem, but nowhere near as badly. Some have very few opportunities to actually be used in the game. Lots of character development options (including skills) suck badly in comparison to other ones. To be perfectly honest, if Bethesda manages even Oblivion-quality writing for Fallout 3, it'll be a step above Fallout 1. Most of the dialogue is written in a bland, matter-of-fact style few of the characters have any personality whatsoever (that includes the party NPCs) and the story feels perfunctory and feels like it's missing detail that would paint a more vivid picture of the world. * Unlike Fallout 2, Fallout 1 has mediocre writing. To be honest, I'm not sure why the game is so highly regarded today. I suppose I should have played Fallout 1 first, but I didn't, and I never got around to really digging into it until a few weeks ago. I actually don't think Fallout 1 sucks, but I am having trouble appreciating it as much as others seem to.įirst, some background: I played Fallout 2 way back around 2000-2001 or so.
